All of us face challenges and problems in life, but not all of us understand the ways to deal with them calmly and confidently. We might have some vague ideas on how to fix those issues, but there is no enough clarity to make concrete decisions.

One of the most common beliefs of excellence is that, ‘If another person is capable of doing something, then we can do it too.’ All you need to know are the steps that are involved in doing it. This is the juncture where NLP and hypnosis can help you achieve your peak potential. These two methodologies are quite powerful, and they have the power to guide you through any situation.

However, many people have some misconceptions about NLP. There are several reasons why a person prefers to study NLP. One of the prominent reasons is that, NLP training will give you the ability to achieve the kind of life you always wanted.

NLP is a methodology or framework, which will help you to change the thought processes and behaviours that are not working for you. It offers an incredibly simple way of enhancing communication.

It helps you to fare better in most of the important skills and things you value the most. By following its principles, it is possible to change your life and your business in profound ways. It makes even the impossible tasks achievable. At the same time however, NLP is considered by some critics as a cult and pseudo-science.

There is an array of tools that we can use to make our lives better. Some of them maybe tightly focused on a particular area.

For example – Hypnotic Weight Loss is a program intended to cover a complex set of problems. The negative myths about hypnosis are floating around, and due to these allegations, people hesitate to try this outstanding life improvement tool.

Some Common Misconceptions about NLP

1.      NLP means Motivation

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) can guide a person in finding an effectual motivation strategy, which means it acts as a model for motivating people. It does not mean motivation in itself.

2.      NLP means Change

Neuro Linguistic Programming is used to observe closely what is in a person’s mind, and uncover the patterns that show how a person makes decisions. NLP is used to discover the best strategies that cause changes in a situation or people, based on earlier decision-making patterns and brain activities. It also projects possibilities and the probability for change.

3.      NLP means influence

As we all know, influence is one of the key factors for decision-making. However, NLP is different from influence. It basically guides a person to find the right strategies in convincing people. It might be used to discover a successful strategy, which helps in convincing other people to believe in things.

4.      NLP implies being a Leader

Many people are of the opinion that NLP is quite important for leaders. They watch the past and current leaders’ actions and speeches to see if they are using NLP. However, leaders cannot use NLP to make the masses ignore the mistakes committed by them, or even to make them say ‘yes’ to things that they say. In fact, NLP is used for observing the current strategies put forth by the leader, and to see if the approach suits them, or if other strategies will work better.

5.      NLP is manipulative

You cannot make people do something that they don’t wish to do, at least not for too long. Besides, NLP teaches that you need to work towards achieving the best outcome for everything and everyone concerned. One of the fundamentals of NLP is adopting what works the best, and to emulate the best. Famous personalities like Mother Theresa, Buddha, Richard Branson, Sachin Tendulkar, Bill Gates, and Martin Luther King figured out what worked great for them, and got the finest results.

6.      NLP is Hypnosis

Many of them think that NLP is same as hypnosis, wherein a person practicing NLP could make others do as he says. However, the aim of NLP is not to put anyone under another person’s control. Basically, it helps in bringing favourable changes and positive reactions.

7.      NLP is Superficial

The basis of NLP can be understood by asking the question – how to make permanent changes quickly for everyone, including severely disabled, communicators, businessmen, artists, and even the mentally ill people. NLP has been incorporated into present-day training for business and personal development, public speaking, sports coaching etc. It is now part of influential methodologies across numerous disciplines.

8.      NLP is based on unproven beliefs, it is voodoo psychology

There are new breakthroughs in neuroscience research, which is accessible and available. Many of them are using these ‘breakthroughs’ effectively for decades with their clients. Always, small groupings of devoted change-makers are at the forefront of the curve. Society and time catch up eventually. NLP inventors were considered marginal, so were others like Picasso, Galileo and Freud and Jung.

9.      NLP Can be learnt from Books

One can learn/be taught very little with the help of books. This is true for NLP too, as it has a lot to do with the basic understanding. Playing music that moves hearts is valuable, being a great parent is also valuable, but bringing creative and positive permanent changes in others are priceless. However, to master the skills, you have to learn from those, who have exemplified those things.

10.  NLP is Intellectual, Geeky and not spiritual

Plotinus has defined spiritual truth as follows – ‘Truth is the psyche in concord with itself’. NLP stands for wholeness, alignment and congruity, so you are in accord with yourself spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and inside and out. If spiritual means respecting the compassion of others, learning to appreciate the marvel of living, celebrating your values, and respecting life itself, then there is nothing as spiritual as the outcome a person gains through NLP.

11.  NLP Doesn’t Exist

Technically this might be right. Actually, it does not exist. NLP is not a thing, but a methodology, which allows us to use our natural propensity to transform our states. It is a process of controlling the altered states in you, which helps to change your thought processes, behaviour, learn quickly, effectively, remove phobias and fears, and concentrate more etc.

12.  NLP Doesn’t Work

Well, the simple truth is that NLP works, and it works for those who are ready to change, and move towards being excellent, and desire great results.  It is effective, powerful and fast. It works when most of the other forms of healing and therapy, behavioural modifications, and casual communication often fail.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a sophisticated way of modelling and enhancing brilliance in any part of human endeavour or behaviour. It is factual that once you are familiar with the important NLP tools, you will be an effective, efficient, elegant and a better communicator, and any misconceptions about NLP must be avoided.

This framework allows life changing and positive ideas to be conversed to your subconscious mind. It is a great way to alter underlying beliefs and thoughts, which helps to make constructive changes and achieve your goals.
